Utsavam at Sri Lakshmi Hayavadhana Perumal Temple in Nanganallur

It is once again time for the annual Utsavam at Sri Lakshmi Hayavadhana Perumal Koil at Nanganallur in Chennai. This blog will cover some of the colorful events at the temple fest.

A bit about the temple:

The presiding deity in the temple is Sri Lakshmi Hayavadhana Perumal (or Sri Lakshmi Hayagreeva Perumal). Sri Lakshmi Hayavadhana Perumal is the God of Learning. The following shloka is usually recited for the Lord:

"Gnaana nanda mayam devam nirmala spatikakrithim
Aadhaaram sarva vidhyanaam hayagreevam upaasmahey"

Translated, it means

"We meditate upon Lord Hayagreeva, who is the personification of knowledge and bliss, whose form is like a flawless crystal and who is the basis of all forms of learning."

The translation has been borrowed from http://www.rupesh.sethi.net.in/uploads/1/8/0/2/1802031/slokas_for_kids.pdf. I hope it's not copywrited!

The deity taken out in the procession during mornings and evenings is Sri Sridhara Perumal.
